Hamburger Pie with Potato Topping (SHEPHERDS PIE- US Style)

Hamburger Pie with Potato Topping (SHEPHERDS PIE- US Style
I realize that it doesn't make much sense; but people in the United States of the  Americans have never much liked lamb or mutton, because it is seen as a peasant food. So, in US kitchens, and especially in US restaurant kitchens, Shepherds pie (much like "Chinese Chop Suey)has come to mean a way to clean out the fridge of leftovers and other garbage. The most common ingredients are left over meats and vegetables, of any type, and hamburger.

Combine cut-up cooked meat or hamburger with gravy. Add cooked peas, carrots, green beans, or what have you. Pour hot into a casserole. Make a ring of seasoned mashed potatoes around the edge of the casserole. Bake in hot oven, (400 F.) about 20 minutes.
