1 onion, minced very finely
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup red wine or good beef stock
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2Tbsps vinegar
1 Tbsp. instant coffee.
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 oz. margarine
2 tsps. lemon juice
1. Saute, do not fry, onions in margarine until golden and add all other ingredients. Bring slowly to a boil, lower heat and simmer 10 to 15 minutes
2. This sauce is great with ribs, chicken, or meatloaf
To Use:
Depending on size, after a meatloaf has cooked for about 30 minutes, pour half of the sauce over the meat, and bake 45 minutes more basting often with remaining sauce.
