Ingredients:
1-1/2 tsps. salt
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
1/4 tsp pepper
1 medium onion, minced
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 Tbsps. shortening or salad oil
2 lbs. beef round steak about 1 inch thick
3 cups diced, peeled fresh or canned tomatoes
Method:
Rub salt, allspice, and pepper well into steak. Dredge meat with flour. Pound in flour with edge of a plate or mallet. Heat shortening in a heavy casserole. Brown meat quickly in hot fat on both sides. Add onion and tomatoes. Cover and bake in preheated moderate oven (350 F.) for about 1- 1/2 hours, or until meat is tender. Check occasionally for moisture. If necessary add a little hot water, or tomato to prevent sticking. Makes about 6 servings.
